FEWER FIRES
PEOPLE BEING MORE CAREFUL. (Per United Press Association.) • Auckland, October 26. For the last two years fires in New Zealand have shown a marked reduction as compared with the tremendous wastage by fires that had taken place previously in the Dominion, remarked Sir George Elliot at a meeting of the South British Insurance Company. There can be little doubt this improvement may be attributed to greater care being taken to avoid preventable loss during the difficult times through which we are passing, said Sir George. It is indisputable that a vast amount of fire wastage has been due to sheer carelessness in one form or another.
