BLUFF NOTES

R.A.0.8. (From Our Correspondent.) The fortnightly meeting of the R.A.0.8. Lodge vzas held on Wednesday evening, when Bro. C. W. Tonkinson, W.P., presided over a good attendance. Routine business having been attended to, opportunity was take to bid farewell and make presentations to two members who are leaving Bluff, Bros. P. Ford and E. Cameron.

The chairman, on behalf of the lodge, expressed regret that two valued members of the order were going away. He, like others present, had known Bros. Ford and Cameron for many years and knew also that they were held in the highest esteem, not only among fellowmembers, but throughout the community. Bro. Tonkinson wished the guests the best of luck and called on Bro. L. P. Denton to make the presentations.

The gifts to Bros. Ford and Cameron were given with the heartiest goodwill of the lodge, Bro. Denton said. All were extremely sorry to say good-bye to brothers whom from their initiation had been regarded as capital members.

Bro. Ford, he understood, was retiring into private life after a long business career and he would take with him the sincere good wishes of all who had been associated with him in both business and social matters. Bro. ’Cameron was joining the.ranks of the benedicts as well as leaving the port. Personally, he (the speaker) was confident Bro. Cameron was taking a wise step, because he had the gift of considering well before arriving at any decision. The departing member’s vocal contributions had given much pleasure in the lodge’s social hours and would be missed on future occasions. Bros. Ford and Cameron had been assets to the order both in and out of the lodge room. The gifts were symbols of goodfellowship felt by local members of the R.A.0.8. towards the brothers who were leaving. Bro. Denton concluded by wishing the departing brothers good luck and expressing a hope that they would payi many future visits to the Bluff lodge.

The previous speakers’ remarks were supplemented by Bros. McNish, Mahoney, and Hanan, each of wh m expressed also a sense of personal loss in the departure of the two brothers concerned. Bros. Ford and Cameron were ac-

corded musical honours on rising to respond. , ~, The fonner said that the gift of his fellow-members meant much to him as an expression of the lodge’s goodwill, while the remarks concerning him meant still more. He was very sorry to leave Bluff, of which, with one short break, he had been a resident for the past seventeen years.

Brother Cameron also thanked the brethren for their gift, which, he said, would bring back many happy meinories to him. Although leaving Bluff he intended to return occasionally and would certainly visit the lodge. (Applause.)

During the evening Items were given by Bros. McNish (piano solos and accompaniments), Cameron, Wixon, Belsham, Folwer, Campbell (songs), and E. Parker (bagpipe selections).
