GENERAL NOTES. The Tamatea makes her weekly run to Stewart Island to-day. leaving at 10.15 a.m. She returns to Bluff to-morrow. A very lean time has been experienced by watersiders of late, any ships arriving being in port for brief periods only. Two ar three vessels are expected in the near future, and these will be very welcome, specially the liner lonic, which will remain in port for a few days. The schooner Britannia sailed for Stewart Island at 10.50 a.m. yesterday. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Company advise that the Storm from Lyttelton, Is clue to reach Bluff on October 3 on her usual trip. On completion of working she will sail the same day for Dunedin and Northern ports. Clearing Lyttelton yesterday, the Union Company’s freighter Waipiata Is due to reach Bluff from Dunedin to-morrow morning, sailing on Friday afternoon for Dunedin.

The Union Company’s Indian trade! Narbada, now at Dunedin, is to leave there to-morrow morning for Bluff, where she is due on Friday. After discharging Indian merchandize, she will sail on Saturday for Newcastle.

Leaving Melbourne this afternoon for Bluff direct the Union Company’s Wainui is due here on Monday morning. The vessel will sail the same afternoon for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. Messrs J. G. Ward and Company, local agents for Huddart-Parker Ltd., advise that the Wanganella will clear Wellington at noon on Saturday for Sydney and Melbourne.

The Port Dunedin, which left Napier on August 11, arrived at London on September 19. The Port Hobart, which left Wellington on August 12, also arrived at London on September 19. The Canadian Challenger was to leave Montreal on September 22 for Australia, Dunedin and Lyttelton, in place of the Canadian Constructor. The latter vessel is now to leave Montreal on September 29 for Auckland, Wellington, and Australian ports.

The Marine Department advises that the Bluff Harbour Board has marked a channel to the oyster wharf with three cask buoys The Orient liner Ormonde arrived at Fiemantle on September 19 from London. She is due at Sydney to-day. The tanker Scalaria, with motor spirit for the Shell Company, Is reported to have left Singapore about September 1 for Auckland and Wellington. She is due at Auckland on October 6.

The Kalingo, en route from Adelaide, left Melbourne on September 19 for Auckland, Wellington and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland early this week. From New Plymouth the vessel will proceed to Sydney, via Greyniouth and Westport. It Is considered probable that new ships will be ordered by the Orient and the P. and O. Lines, says the Sydney Shipping List It is believed that the Orient Line is considering the replacement of the Orsova, and the contract is expected to be given to Vickers’ Armstrong, Ltd. The P. and O. is likely to order new ships next year, probably to replace the pre-war liners Mantua and Kaiser-I-Hind. Exceptionally low prices at present prevailing m the shipyards is a governing factor in the suggested additions to fleets. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain W. A. Gray has relieved Captain R M. Kane as master of the Tamahine. Captain J. Mcßostie is in command of the Shaw, Savill steamer Mamari, which arrived at Wellington last Wednesday from Lyttelton, and his officers are: Chief, Mr G. W. Murphy: second, Mr A. E. Weller; third, Mr G. Kavanagh;, fourth, Mr W. E. Banks; chief engineer, Mr A. Cunningham.
