IRONY OF DEATH

TRAGEDY OF TIGHT COLLAR. How a man who had attempted to commit suicide by cutting his wrist with a razor blade died from asphyxia caused by a tight collar, was described at a Dublin inquest recently. The man, aged 28 to 30, was found dead in his bedroom at a Dublin hotel, where he had registered as “R- A. Masters, of Torrington Square, London, W.C.” The police, however, stated that the man had not stayed at that address for the past two years. A sergeant of the Civic Guard stated that he found the man with a cut on his wrist and near him was a safetyrazor blade, but a doctor gave evidence that death was due to asphyxia, caused by the exceedingly-tight linen collar the man was wearing. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
