SCOTTISH SOCIETY. ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual general meeting of the Wyndham and District St. Andrew’s Scottish Society was held in the Masonic Hall, Wyndham, on Friday evening, Chief John Halliday presiding over a large attendance. At the commencement of proceedings the chief, together with chieftains J. H. Henderson, W. Frame and D. N. A. Macpherson were played on to the stage by Piper John McDonald, to the strains of “A Man’s a Man for a’ that”. At the conclusion of community singing the chief presented the following report on the year’s operations:— “It is pleasing to be able to report that the year has been a profitable one from all points of view. The year opened with a credit cash balance of £45 and closed with one of £56. Taking the prevailing conditions into consideration this is most satisfactory. Most societies of a like nature have been seriously affected by the stringency of the money markets, and have found a decided falling off in their revenue; in face of this, it is pleasing that the local society has been able to meet all expenditure during the year, and still show a credit. The membership shows an increase of 76, the roll number being 206 as against 130 in the previous year, an increase which plainly evidences that the society has not lost any of its popularity. During the year it has been the aim of the council to stage bright and interesting mouthly meetings, and the excutive considers it has succeeded in this, as some very fine lectures have been given and to all appearances were thoroughly enjoyed by members. The annual concert, now the leading musical treat of the year, was staged in April, and as on previous occasions proved a great success. The society again staged its annual “Children Night”, which was largely patronized. The ladies are also to be complimented on their annual Ladies’ Night and the time and expense put into the under-taking, exhibiting the interest they have in the welfare of the society. The report on the year’s working would not be complete without special mention being made of the invaluable service rendered to the society by Mrs W. G. Leckie and family in supplying music for dancing month after month. The generosity of this family and the keen interest they have in the society call for the deepest appreciation of all members. In conclusion, I would, as Chief, accept this opportunity of thanking members for their kind co-operation during my term of office, which has been of a decidedly pleasant nature, and I trust that the same will be extended to the incoming chief.” Tire secretary presented the balancesheet showing receipts amounting to £97 17/9, with expenditure £92 6/-, leaving a credit balance of £5 11/9. Assets over liabilites showed a balance of £7O 14/-. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: chief, Mr J. H. Henderson; chieftains, Messrs J. Young, W. Frame and D. N. A. Macpherson; councillors, Messrs F. W. J. Crosby, J. C. Ronald, H. McKerrow, D. Christie, D. Sinclair, T. Skinner, E. Agnew, J. Mitchell, J. Halliday, J. Young, J. H. Henderson, D. Macpherson; secretary, Mr A. A. Wilson junior; treasurer, Mr Hugh McKerrow; pipers, Messrs John McDonald, W. Cochrane and W. Stirling; ladies’ committee, Mesdames A. Ross, J. Young, J. Chief Halliday also expressed his appreciation to the secretary (Mr A. A. Wilson, jun.) for his ever ready assistance in all matters for the welfare of the society. He asked members to continue in their support to the new Chief and attend the monthly meetings regularly. Mr Henderson said the late Chiet had been able to increase the membership considerably and he trusted that this state of affairs could continue. Macpherson and C. McCalman (Otara); pipe selection, Piper Jno. McDonald; humorous items, Mr Willie McKee (Dunedin). Atfer supper the floor was cleared for dancing to music by the Leckie family. Mr E.
