THE UPPER HOUSE

RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE CABINET. (From Our Parliamnetary Reporter.) Wellington, September 25. Although it is stated that Cabinet has not had time to consider the question of fresh appointments to the Legislative Council of which eight to ten are to be made if the council is to operate properly this session, it is understood that some recommendations are already before Cabinet, mainly from the Reform side of the Coalition. Endeavours are being made to obtain an early decision on the subject. When Cabinet is able to settle down to normal procedure after interruptions through ceremonies in connection with the visits of the Australian warships, doubtless the council appointments will be made. It is probable then that the appointment of a new Judge to succeed Mr Justice Adams will also be dealt with.
