NEW STAR
NORTH OF SCORPION. not visible to naked eye. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, August 17. Doctor Adams, the Government Astronomer, to-day received the following cable message from Melbourne — presumably from the Observatory—announcing the discovery of a nova (or) new star in Ophiuchus, an extensive constellation which lies north of Scorpion. It • was seen on August 15 and was of the sixth magnitude, which is below the naked eye’s visibility. It is not likely to increase in brightness, but will, no doubt, be closely studied by owners of telescopes, especially those fitted with spectroscopes. No indication of the exact position was cabled.
