SUCCESSFUL BAZAAR. The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild had their efforts of the previous few weeks rewarded on Saturday, the 15th, when they held a most successful bazaar in the hall. The Rev. Renwick, of Woodlands, in declaring the function open for business, expressed the hope that the guild would attain its object, that of liquidating the existing debt upon the church. Good business was done throughout the afternoon and evening, those in charge of the stalls being:—Work Stall —Mesdames Robertson and McFadyen; Produce—Mrs T. Moss (president), Misses Hewitson and Falconer; Sweets —Misses Moss and Smith. Competitions held during the evening attracted large entries, the prize-winners being:—Flower bowl) Mrs Robertson, (pillow shams) Mr J. Hamilton (51b box tea) Mr P. Inglis, (tea cosy) Mr A. Halliday, (satin cushion) Mrs McIntosh (Warepa), (501 b bag of flour) Mr T. Moss, jun., (kettle) Miss Moss; (cake) Miss Pearl Sutherland, (doll) H. Binney (Invercargill); (ladies’ lingerie) Miss B. McFadyen, (pair hand-knitted sox) Mr M. McFadyen. After supper had been served by the ladies it was announced tha the proceeds amounted to approximately £2O. Last Tuesday evening the Rev. Tocker, of Invercargill, gave a most able lecture on the situation in _ the far east, when, despite the cold night, there was a good attendance of local residents. Mr McNally, president of the Farmers’ Union, presided and briefly introduced the speaker, who was given a warm reception and also a most attentive hearing throughout At the conclusion of the lecture, on the motion of Mr A. H. Sheat, Mr Tocker was accorded a most hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Blackmore, on behalf of the W.D.F.U., supplemented Mr Sheat’s remarks.
