WARDEN’S COURT
SITTINGS AT GORE. At a sitting of the Waikaia Warden’s Court yesterday before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., the following applications for prospecting licenses were granted:—Robert McKay, 15 acres, part of section 20, Block I, Wendonside District; John Thomas Murphy, 20 acres on run 436 a, Gap Survey District, Waikaia Bush. At a sitting of the Warden’s Court also before Mr Dixon, an application by Thomas Joseph Garvey and party for a prospecting license for 65 acres, Scenic Reserve, Edendale Settlement, was heard. The applicant did not appear. Mr C. E. Davey appeared for the objectors, the Edendale Town Board. He said that the area in question had been vested in the Edendale Town Board some seven or eight years ago. It was the only piece of native bush on the main route between Gore and Invercargill. Several years ago the board had commenced opening up the bush as a scenic reserve, but the coming of the depression had put an end to the work for the time being. He understood that the Commissioner of Crown Lands was also filing an objection. The application was struck out and costs and expenses amounting to £2 4/were allowed to the objectors.
