SCOTTISH CONCERT

ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY. MAYOR’S RELIEF FUND BENEFITS. Quantity, quality and excellent entertainment marked the Royal Scottish concert arranged and conducted under the auspices of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society in the Civic Theatre last evening. The concert was organized solely in the interests of the Mayor’s Relief Fund, and as the theatre was well filled in every section the fund should materially benefit from the response by the public. A lengthy programme of musical and elocutionary items was provided by the Caledonian Pipe Band (under Drum-Major W. Wood), Invercargill Male Choir (conducted by Mr B. C. Galloway), pupils of the Sutherland School of National Dancing, the Strathspey Band, led by Mr G. Dickson, Mr Kennedy Black’s male quartet, members of the society and local and visiting artists. All of the performers were in splendid form and were well received by the audience, which insisted on encores of every number. Mr Robert Henry capably filled the heavy duties of accompanist. The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs John Miller) were present.
