The buoyancy which has resulted from the advance in values of store sheep, fat sheep and fat lambs at'Addington recently and the continuance of that advance to-day has caused a general confidence of a degree not known for over 12 months. In response to spirited competition fat sheep advanced to a level not known for more than a year, wethers making up to 25/7 and ewes to 21/10. Fat lambs and store sheep also recorded substantial advances on late rates. Store Sheep.—A' more than normal winter yarding was forward. Ewe lambs and forward wether lambs were 1/- to 2/- per head dearer than last week and adult ewes in good condition advanced by a similar extent. Values were: Good ewe lambs 11/- to 12/-, medium 9/- to 10/6, ordinary' 7/- to 8/-, good wether lambs to 8/8, ordinary m.s. to 7/-, small and plain to 5/6, good 6 and 8-th halfbred and crossbred ewes 12/- to 13/-, good s.m. halfbred to 9/-, ordinary 6/- to 7/-, aged and inferior 2/- to 4/6. Fat Lambs.—The entry totalled 2200. The West Coast was represented. It was an excellent sale from start to finish with butchers paying over 5d per lb. Exporters bought with the greatest keenness, also paying up to sd. The average advance for the auction was 1/- to 1/6 per head. It was the best sale of the season. Values were: Extra prime heavy lambs to 20/1, prime heavy 15/6 to 17/6, medium weight 13/to 15/-, ordinary 10/- to 12/6, light 7/6 to 9/6. Fat Sheep.—An entry of 5250. There were a large number of drafts from Southland, Otago, South Canterbury and West Coast. There was particularly keen competition for light sheep with an advance of 1/- per head on late rates. Other classes showed a slightly smaller advance. The rise in a few weeks has been 3/- to 4/- per head, reaching the best level at Addington for over 12 months. Values were: Show wethers to 25/7, extra prime heavy wethers 20/4 to 22/10, prime 18/6 to 20/-, medium weight 16/6 to 18/-, ordinary 14/- to 16/-, light 11/- to 13/6, extra prime heavy ewes to 21/10, prime 16/3 to 18/-, medium weight 13/6 to 16/-, ordinary 10/6 to 13/-, light and unfinished 7/- to 9/-. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 640 head, the largest at an ordinary sale for four years. Values were maintained for extra prime sorts, while other classes were 10/- to £1 per head easier. Cattle were forward from the West Coast, Southland, Otago and South Canterbury. Especially good beef made 24/- per 1001 b, good prime 16/to 20/-, heavy-weight and medium beef 12/- to 16/-, good cow and heifer beef 13/- to 17/-, secondary 8/- to 11/-, rough to 6/-. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £ll 2/6, prime £7 10/- to £9, prime medium-weight £6 to £B, ordinary £3 10/- to £5 10/-, light £1 17/6 to £3, extra prime heifers to £6 17/6, prime £4 10/- to £6 5/-, medium £2 10/- to £4, light £1 7/6 to £2 10/-, prime cows £3 15/to £5 17/6, medium £2 to £3 5/-, light £1 to £2. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. RISE IN FAT SHEEP VALUES. (Per United Press Associailou.) Dunedin, June 14. A further sharp rise in fat sheep values was recorded at the Bumside market to-day *and fat cattle also showed an increase over last week’s rates. The quality of the cattle yarding was disappointing for of the 231 offered there was only a small proportion of prime sorts. Best prime bullocks made to £ll 17/6 or £1 per head better than last week. Medium and light sorts cows and heifers sold to 10/- better. Prime ox beef was worth to 22/-, light and medium 16/to 18/-, heifers 15/- to 18/6 and cows 10/- to 13/- per lOOlbs, according to quality. The short yarding of sheep included only a small proportion of wethers and sold at an advance of 2/- per head on last week. About 1400 were penned. Best wether sold to 24/6, the price per lb being 3|d. Best ewes brought 20/9 or 2sd per lb. The lambs offered were bought mainly by butchers and for the Belfast works at the latter’s full schedules, the market being 2/- to 2/6 better than last week. About 700 were penned. Some extra prime heavy lambs made to 20/3. There was a small yarding of store cattle. The values for vealers which were in short supply appreciated considerably. A pen of good four-year-old forward steers realized £5 7/- and a pen of young steers £2 2/6. A small number of cows and heifers sold at late rates. In the pig section 119 fats were offered, consisting principally of porkers. Prices at the commencement of the sale showed a slight improvement on last week’s rates but then receded as the sale progressed to close firm at values on a par with the l#st sale. Store pigs, of which there was a medium entry, met with a poor market. RISE IN VALUES. THE WESTFIELD MARKET. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, June 14. The rise in the values of. sheep and lambs in the different centres was reflected at Westfield to-day. At a brisk sale sheep were freely sought by local buyers and advanced 1/- to 1/6 per head. Prime wethers were selling to 19/9. Exporters operated freely for lambs and prices rose 2/- per head and prime to 19/-. DAIRY PRODUCE. Mr G. Blaxall reports having received the following advice from Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Ltd., London, dated June 13, 1933:—Butter: 80/- to 82/-. Cheese: Coloured 53/6 to 54/-; white 48/6.
