An Interesting Budget

A country correspondent who wishes to remain anonymous has written, expressing appreciation of our Feminine Reflections, particularly of the Home Office section, and, having come to the help of this department in the past, sends the following pot-pourri of interesting information which I am very pleased to pass on to my readers:— Premature Greyness.—Put one tablespoon of common salt in a jar and cover with four tablespoons of best brandy. Let this stand three or four hours, then pour off the liquid, taking care not to disturb the sediment. Brush the hair with the liquid two or three times a week and the result will surprise you.

Twelve Rules for Stains: Mildew.—Boil article in cream of tartar water and hang in the sun. Rust.—Ammonia water, or soak in buttermilk.

Ink.—Lemon juice or water or soak in milk and then wash in Kot water. Paint.— Equal parts of turpentine and ammonia. Fruit— Borax and boiling water poured from a height or spirits of camphor. Blood.— Hydrogen of Peroxide. Grass.—No soap; cold water only. Medicine.— Strong ammonia. Scratches.— Lemon will remove scratches from paint. Coffee.— Boiling water and then weak ammonia in water. Cocoa.—Borax, soap and cold water. Grease.—Petrol or ammonia. To Pluck a Duck or Fowl. (1) First wet the bird and put in a wet sugar bag. Place in a hot oven

for half an hour when the feathers will rub off quite easily. (2) Place a piece of washing soda about the size of a walnut in the kettle of boiling water. Allow to dissolve, then pour over fowl. This will make the plucking much easier.
