DAMAGES AWARDED

COMPENSATION CLAIM. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 10. That the death of Arthur John Ibbotson, a builder aged 62, following an accident near the Town Hall in December last year was caused by the negligence of the motor cyclist and driver of the motor car, was the view taken by the jury on the issues put to them at the conclusion of the trial in the Supreme Court to-day of an action for compensation brought on behalf of the widow, Ada Elizabeth Ibbotson. The jury further held that the late Ibbotson was not guilty of contributory negligence and awarded £lO5O as compensation. Defendants were Lance Godfrey Edwin Barnes, motor cyclist, and Tom Gordon Gault, motor mechanic, owner of the motor car which at the time of the accident was being driven by another man. Mr Justice Ostler said he would not enter judgment in the- meantime so as to enable counsel for defendants to go into the question of whether it was considered worth while arguing the non-suit point further.
