SEED TESTING
FAR-REACHING DISCOVERY. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, May 10. A discovery of far-reaching importance in seed-testing has been made at the Canterbury Agricultural College where it has been shown that sunlight suitably filtered will provide an ultraviolet ray test for ryegrass. The report to the board states that a filter mounted in a light-proof box, fitted with curtains, and exposed to the sunlight or strong daylight gave a satisfactory result in an ultra-violet ray test. This is of considerable importance to agricultural advisory officers who could use the test to advantage but at present are debarred from doing so by the high cost of ordinary apparatus.
