MANDEVILLE NOTES
After a period of nearly six weeks lof unsettled weather conditions, to be followed up by much heavier rain during the week end, the local streams are high and the Waimea stream has been in heavy flood making motorists exercise some precaution when negotiating flooded portions of the road beyond the bridges. Wark of all kinds has been held up and consequently vei-y little ploughing has been done as yet. The season has been a good one for fattening and consequently the number of lambs on turnips is comparatively small. Women’s Institute. The monthly meeting was held in the hall on Thursday, when the attendance was a large one. At the annual meeting the gathering failed to appoint a president for the ensuing year. The desire was that the retiring president, Mrs J. H. McLeod, be reelected. However, she desired another to fill the position. Further pressure was brought to bear on Thursday and Mrs McLeod acceded to the unanimous request. * The local ladies are showing keen interest in the meetings and with an enthusiastic secretary (Mrs G. Graham) everything promises well for the future.
Local sports have had quite satisfactory bags. Only those who made the Waimea their shooting ground report a disappointment.
