SWEDISH SCIENTIST EXPLORER PLANNING SEARCH PERMISSION ASKED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Pekin, May 10. The Swedish explorer Sven Hedin, aged 68, is seeking Nanking’s permission to lead a mixed Sino-foreign expedition into Sinkiang to search for Dr Nils Ambolt, a Swedish scientist, who has been missing in the wilds of Central Asia since November. Six months ago Dr Ambolt lost his caravan of 80 camels during a terrific snowstorm among the mountains of Northern Tibet and was forced to abandon the results of four years’ research in addition to a valuable collection of scientific instruments. He then proceeded an foot towards Cherchen, an oasis, 400 miles north of Urumchi, but has not since been heard of. A recent Mohammedan rising in Sinkiang has increased fears for his safety.
