LUMSDEN NOTES

HOCKEY MATCHES. (From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday May 6 the Northern District hockey fixtures were advanced a further stage when Riversdale met Lumsden on the local hockey ground. The teams took the field as follows: Lumsden.—R. Graham; A. Hoffman, J. Sims; H. Small, F. Shuttleworth, Mary Sherriff; M. Small, Margaret Sherriff, C. Reidy, M. Menzies, V. Tomlinson. Riversdale.—M. Wright; K. Dillon, D. Green; E. Dillon, B. Hodge, R. McMath; E. Miller, G. Jones, K. Jopp; M. Miller, I. McAlister. Lumsden proved the winners, defeating Riversdale by 6 goals to nil. The result came in the nature of a surprise as last season Riversdale had shown great form. In the first spell the honours were fairly even but in the second spell Lumsden were superior in every department the combination be'ing almost faultless whereas Riversdale, although playing well individually, failed to combine. Goals were scored by Margaret Sherriff 3, C. Reidy 2, M. Small 1. Ex-Pupils’ Re-union Ball. On Friday evening, May 5, the annual re-union ball of the Lumsden School Ex-pupil’s Association was held, the Regent Theatre being comfortably filled. Novelty dances were held during the evening Miss G. Durry and E.

Ashley winning the lucky spot and Miss L. Johnson and G. Aitcheson the Monte Carlo dance. The duties of M.C. were efficiently carried out by Mr James Challis and the music supplied by the Blue Bird Orchestra. Ex-pupils who answered the roll call at the dance were as follows: A. G. Cunningham, Keith Soper, J. Challis, Mary Sherriff, Margaret Sherriff. Town Board. The monthly meeting of the Lumsden Town Board was held in the board room on Monday, May 8, when Mr A. Heath presided over a full attendance of members. Mr D. F. McLeod’s term of engagement as ranger having expired it was resolved to call applications for the position. Mr McLeod to be asked to act until a new appointment had been made. It was decided to leave the topping of trees in the Domain in the hands of Commissioner Little. ■ It was resolved that two extra' lights be installed on the main highway opposite Mr Soper’s and Mr Stanford’s residences. Mr R. J. Clearwater's tender for the supply of 10 tons of chaff was accepted.
