WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
DIPTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Dipton Women’s Institute was held in the Public Library on May 3, a fair attendance being present. Mrs Moss occupied the chair. Two visitors and new members were welcomed. The remits for the annual meeting of the Southland Federation, at which Mrs Moss is the Dipton representative, were discussed. Mrs Moss was also appointed as delegate for the meeting to be held at Christchurch. The members decided to enter an exhibit in the Women’s Institute handicraft section at the federation meeting. The competition for next meeting is to be an article from one yard of cretonne. The articles are, if possible, to be sold among members to raise funds to pay the delegates’ expenses to Christchurch. The competition for the evening was, “Best article from flour bag.” The judging resulted as follows: Mrs Moss 1, Misses Hurst and Martin 2, Misses Sparks and Burgess 3. Mrs Goodwin, of Waimumu, demonstrated on tussock work.
