WINTER SHOW

OPENING TO-DAY CHEESE AND BUTTER AWARDS CHAMPIONSHIP TO WRIGHT’S BUSH The entries for the Southland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Winter Show are well up to those of past years and everything is in readiness for the official opening today. The cheese and factory butter classes ifrere judged yesterday by Government dairy produce graders who were unanimous in stating that the quality of the classes was particularly high this year. The displays were all good and the produce stands and trade displays, together with other attractions, should make a show that will be equal to any staged in the past. “The cheese classes this year present a very fine exhibit, being very clean with a well finished appearance,” the judges stated. “In- our opinion this year’s exhibit is the finest staged fol some years. Consistent with the appearance the quality of all cheese was good and well up to show standard. Many of the prize-winners were almost inseparable, giving considerable difficulty in making the awards. Although many of the exhibits did not figure in the prize list, the quality of most of these left little to be desired.” In conjunction with the Winter Show a chrysanthemum exhibition by the Invercargill Garden Club and the annual show of the Invercargill Poultry Club will be held at the Drill Hall. The allocation of points for the championship in the Dairy Produce section resulted in very close placing, two factories being caual for second place and two equal for third place.
