The suspected doping of the pony, Michael Feeney, at Ascot a week ago came to a head yesterday when the owner-trainer, Percy Martell, was disqualified for life for improper conduct. His brother, Leo, who allegedly gave the pony a drink from a bottle prior to running in the River Handicap was also found guilty of improper conduct. The stewards will recommend he be warned off the Ascot course for life and the pony suspended for 12 months.
