Miss Dorothy Gardiner, author of "The Transatlantic Ghost,” was born in Naples. On her father’s side she is Scotch and on her mother’s American. She must hold a record for the early age at which she had her finger-prints taken—she was three hours old! Her father, who had been a pupil of Thomas Huxley, was at that time helping Sir Francis Galton with his work on fingerprints.
