Miss Gertrude Stein, the chief rival of Mr James Joyce in the realm of advanced literature, has written her autobiography. It will appear shortly under the title of “The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklan,” and is said to be free from Miss Stein’s usual eccentricities of style which make most of her writings difficult for ordinary folk to follow. Like Mr Joyce, Miss Stein lives in Paris. Recently in London a complete set of the original paiis of “Vanity Fair” by Thackeray, including an announcement of the approaching publication of “Pendennis,” brought £125 at autcion in London. A complete copy by T. E. Lawrence’s “Seven Pillars of Wisdom" published in 1926 brought £lO2.
