There is no bone in whalebone. It is baleen, an elastic substance found in the mouth of a whale. Scale models of boats and ships of all sizes may be tested for speed, seaworthiness, etc., in a new tank, 670 ft long and 30ft wide recently ed at the National Physical Laboratory at Teddington.
