AWARDS IN THE 344th TEST. (a) Description of Moonlight (for cousins 13 and over). 2/6 and 4 marks to Cousin Hannah Skerrett (14), Pahia. Highly Commended—2 marks to Cousins Edith Mclnnes (13), 9 Duke street; Lesley Shand (17), Rimu; Connie Jellyman (14), Queen street, Otautau. (b) For girls 12 and under: Description of a lady. 2/- and 3 marks to Cousin Rosemary Heath (12), Tuatapere. Commended.—l mark to Cousins Ruby Beggs (12), Eastern Bush; Pattie Smith (10), Glencoe. —For boys—Description of a hero. 1/- and 2 marks to Cousin Harry Smith (8), Glencoe. (The only competitor.) COMMENTS. The moonlight descriptions were particularly good—but, cousins, how few! Easter was certainly holiday time for most of you! Watch your adjectives, my dears, and chose each one you use with a keen and discriminating eye. The junior work was not so good—and just as scarce! And the boys ! I want to tell you, my cousins, just what scathing terms those dashes represent!! We’ll have more of these—and soon. Young Cousin Harry Smith is doing good work. —COUSIN BETTY. 345th TEST. (a) Story, for cousins under 16, entitled: Little Yellow Cloud. (b) Silhouette picture of someone you know. Bules to Remember. 1— Write in ink on one side of the paper only. 2— There must be separate sheets for each competition. 3— Each Cousin must work unaided, and enter his or her own work, clearly marking it “original” or “my own work.” t 4— Drawing must be in black ink, preferably in Indian ink, and on drawing paper. 5— No one more than 16 years of age may compete in these classes unless otherwise stated.
