A BEAUTIFUL LADY

—Prize— The first time I saw her I could hardly take my eyes from her. She was beautiful, there was no doubt about that. She was tall and slim, with an upright figure gracefully curved. She had long tapering fingers an dainty pink nails on which the half moons were plainly visible; her ankles were slim and her feet small. She was perfectly dressed in a style that suited her, and altogether had about her an air of good breeding and elegance.. She had thick masses of curly black hair clustering about her dainty half-hidden ears and oval face; well marked finely arched eyebrows above big dark brown eyes with long dense lashes, a perfect Grecian nose, and a creamy skin faintly tinged with rose. . She had a particularly well cut and expressive mouth of a rich red colour. She had a dazzling smile which revealed small white teeth; and a firm round chin that even Greta Garbo would have envied. She wore a sweet and bright expression and had a rich golden voice tha one could listen to for ever. , She had a graceful easy walk and was very light on her feet. Her laugn was low and sweet and sounded like the rippling of a brook on a summer’s day. In my eyes she was perfect. -2/- and 3 marks to Cousin Rosemary Heath (12), c/o Messrs Cameron an Finn, Tuatapere.

—Commended. — She was a bright and merry lady. Her blue eyes sparkled with happiness. Her raven hair which was cut short, hung round her forehead while her round cheeks were rosy red. Long and slim was this lady’s figure. As well as having beautiful looks she had a beautiful heart—a kind and gentle heart. She helped the poor, comforted the sick and was always doing kind deeds for everyone who was in trouble. She was gentle with little children and looked after the motherless babies. She kept a beautiful garden and every fine day she would be seen working amongst the pretty flowers which she had tended so well since they first appeared above the ground. Often poor children who would lean over the wall to see these flowers, would be given a bunch to take to their small dull houses to make them more cheerful. Delicate children would always be pleased to see this kind young helper who would take them out into parks or some sunny spot where they could play happily with other children. She was a kind and willing helper to all who were helpless—a beautiful lady with a strong but gentle hand and a kind heart.
