WAIRARAPA R.C. NEW YEAR MEETING FIRST DAY’S ACCEPTANCES (Per United Press Association.) Masterton, December 23. The following are the acceptances for the first day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting on January 2 and 3:— ELECTRIC HANDICAP. £lOO. Five furlongs.

OAMARU JOCKEY CLUB. ADDITIONAL ACCEPTOR. (Per United Press Association.) Oamaru, December 23. In the Oamaru acceptances Hurlingham 8.10 is an acceptor for the Flying Handicap. TENNIS CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT. The Southland Tennis Association’s annual Christmas tournament commences on Monday when the men’s events and the boys’ championships will be played at Waihopai and the ladies’ events and the girls’ championships at Invercargill. Competitors in the singles handicap and championships are to be at the courts by 8.30 a.m. ATHLETICS MEETING AT WRIGHT’S BUSH. The Excelsior Cycle Club held its evening sports at Wrights Bush on Wednesday, when a large crowd was present. In all the evtnts the finishes were very close. The weather was perfect for evening sports and the track was very fast. Following are the results: One Mile Cycle (open).—H. Insall (25yds) 1, A. Hagerty (scr) 2, R. Dick (100yds) 3. Hagerty caught the leaders in the second lap, but could not hold off Insall who, finishing fast, won by a length. One and a half Mile Cycle (open).— H. Insall (scr) 1, A. Hagerty (scr) 2, R. Dick (140yds) 3. This was the best race of the night. When the straight was reached Insall, with a great burst of speed, beat Hagerty by a length, with Dick two lengths further back. One Mile Cycle (novice). —Batt 1, Swan 2, Robertson 3. Batta rode well for a novice and won by a length from Swan, with Robertson a length further back third.

100 Yards Running.—J. Swan (4yds) 1, Roberts (6yds) 2, A. White (9yds) 3. From a good start Swan went to the front and won by three yards from Roberts, who beat White by inches. Half-mile Running.—Roberts (30yds) 1, A. White (30yds) 2, E. Ward (scr) 3. Roberts took the lead in the second lap and won by six yards from White, with Ward finishing third a long way back. 75 Yards Ladies.—Miss E. Jackson 1, Miss Milne 2, Mrs E. Young 3. A good finish, inches separating the placed competitors. ALL BLACK’S PERFORMANCE. (Per United Press Association.) Westport, December 23. At Victoria Square to-night at the conclusion of the evening sports meeting, the deputy Mayor, Mr J. Menzies, in the absence of the Mayor, civically congratulated the Mahar Cup team on its success at the sports meeting recently held at Blenheim, Buller winning by 52 to Marlborough’s 32. He specially mentioned Eddie Holder, Buller’s All Black, for his fine performance in winning the 100 yards (10 1-5 sec)*, 220yds, broad jump (44ft), second 440yds and by his great finishing run in the relay which gave the trophy to Buller. ,
