RADIUM EXTRACTION
THE CANADIAN REFINERY. RICH DEPOSITS AVAILABLE. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.6 p.m.) Rugby, December 22. At the end of the month a raaium refinery plant, the only one in the British Empire, will start operations in Ontario. Many tons of pitch blende have been taken there by aeroplane from the extremely rich deposits of the Great Bear Lake district in northern Canada. The new process of radium extraction has given a high percentage of recovery. It is stated that great strides are being made in the employment of radium for non-operative surgery.
