HOUSEWIVES’ UNION

INVERCARGILL BRANCH. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The second executive meeting of the Invercargill branch of the Housewives’ Union was held in Nichols’ Buildings on Wednesday evening. There was a full attendance of members over whom Mrs T. McLean presided. The secretary reported having forwarded an invitation to Mrs Herbert, president of the Dunedin branch of the Housewives’ Union, to attend the initial general meeting to be held on January 26. The following resolution was carried unanimously: “This meeting strongly disapproves of the low pittance granted to relief workers for the Christmas and New Year period and considers the amounts allotted will, mean privation to the men, women and children of the unemployed.” Some discussion ensued in connection with social problems, and it was decided that the union should have some representation on organizations dealing with social welfare amongst the working class. The next meeting of the executive was arranged for January 11.
