OTAHUTI NOTES
SCHOOL BREAK-UP. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual break-up ceremony at the Otahuti School was held on Thursday afternoon. A large number of parents and friends assembled and the function took the form of a picnic and sports gathering. After the various events had been decided, afternoon tea was dispensed and then Mr T. McKenzie, chairman of the committee, presented prizes and proficiency and attendance certificates. , The sports events resulted: Boys 9 years and over—Ken McKenzie 1, Alex McLeod 2, Telf McKenzie 3. Girls 9 years and over—Veda Cowan 1, Gracie Cowan 2, Meta McLeod 3. Boys under 9 years—Bob Cowan I, John Fowler 2, Henry Cowan 3. Girls 9 years and under—Marjorie Fowler 1, Colleen McLeod 2, Nanie McLeod 3. Boys’ sack race—Bob Cowan 1, Norman McLeod 2, Telford McKenzie 3. Girls’ sack race— Nanie McLeod 1, Meta McLeod 2, Grace Cowan 3. Three-legged race— Telford McKenzie and Ken McKenzie 1, Norman McLeod and Brian Cole 2, Bob Cowan and Alex McLeod 3. Boys’ tyre race—Alan Donald 1, Norman McLeod 2, Telford McKenzie 3. Girls’ tyre race—Doris Cowan 1, Colleen McKenzie 2. Wheelbarrow race—Telford McKenzie and Meta McLeod 1, Ken McKenzie and .Grace Cowan 2. Young ladies’ race —Misses Alice Snow 1, Milly Thomson 2, Nancy Buxton 3. Ladies’ sack race— Misses Nancy Buxton 1, Winnie Donald 2, Isabel Campbell 3. Committee men’s race—Messrs R. Shields 1, A. McLeod 2, T. McKenzie 3. Married ladies—Mrs Dawson 1, Mrs A. Barber 2, Mrs Buxton 3. Married men’s race: A. McLeod 1, R. Shields 2, A. Barber 3. Young ladies’ race—Misses M. Thomson 1, N. Buxton 2. Nail driving: Ladies—Miss J. McFarlane 1, Mrs C. Moore 2. Men— Mr A. McLeod 1. Bottle relay—John Fowler 1, N. McLeod and K. McKenzie 2 equal.
All the sewing was of a very high standard, the work of Gracie Cowan who gained first prize being exceptionally good.
