NAPIER HARBOUR
SCHEME FOR DEEP-SEA BREAKWATER. (Per United Press Anoeiation.) Napier, December 20. j The Napier Harbour Board adopted the proposals for the execution of the scheme recently outlined by Messrs Furkert and Holdemess for the development of a deep-sea harbour at the breakwater. The scheme provides for the expen- > diture of £406,700, £71,000 of which I. is to be secured immediately. Of the - latter amount £ll,OOO is to be used for r the maintenance of the inner harbour e until such time as the breakwater can :, accommodate lighters and other small
craft The execution of the sheme is to be spread over four and a-half years, and interest and sinking fund are to be met by imposing an extra 1/- per ton on all cargo during that period. It is estimated the work will provide constant employment for 200 men for three years. Full award wages are to be paid. The work will be done by contract with expected assistance by way of the Unemployment Board subsidy. .
