SHELTER ON RELIEF JOBS.

To the Editor. Sir.—l notice in this morning’s Times a report of the Council meeting held on Monday evening which states that the Council could not see its way clear to supply shelters for the men working under the control of the Works Department. This application was made on behalf of the Relief Workers’ Union and it may have been better for all concerned had the union officials made some enquiries regarding this matter before applying to the Council. There are shelter huts on all the Council jobs already, a hut at Currans Road, a rush and timber shelter at Seaward Bush, a 12 by 12 foot shelter at Awarua and the men employed by the reserves at Otways, Seaward Bush have a leanto erected on the job. It would save a great deal of overlapping if relief workers would place their grievance before the proper quarter first and only then if satisfaction is not obtained, write placing the matter before the City Council in an endeavour to have these grievances rectified. I might add that there is one gang employed in the town levelling etc., who have no shelter shed but the average relief worker by now knows when to come in out of the rain.—l am etc., “RELIEF WORKER.”
