A very interesting comment on New Zealand’s trip to Los Angeles in included in a letter received in Auckland from Mr William M. Henry, sports technical director of the Olympic Games. Mr Henry writes:—“Needless to say, you will have received first-hand reports from the New Zealand Olympic team long before you receive this letter from me, and I doubt if I can add very much more, except to say that the New Zealanders were a very fine bunch of sportsmen, and were extremely popular here. Elliott ran very well in the sprints but was up against superhuman runners, and I think he did very well. Savidan unquestionably was a splendid representative, and ran magnificently in both the 5000 and 10,000 metres. Lovelock arrived too late for one who is not a particularly good traveller, and I think that this opinion is borne out by the fact that a week or 10 days after the Games he ran a beautiful mile in Canada in something like 4min 14sec. He ran very well in the finals of the 1500 metres, and was right up with the leaders until the big sprint at the finish, , when he was passed up in the rush.
