SPRINGHILLS NOTES

TENNIS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The first annual meeting of the Springhills Tennis Club was held in the hall on Monday, October 24, there being a good attendance of members and intending members. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:— President, Mr S. Slocombe; vice-presi-dents, Mrs D. M. Chisholm, Messrs C. Wilson, sen., T. Keen, D. M. C. Chisholm; secretary, Miss G. Robertson; club captain, Mr J. Rugg; emergency committee, president, captail, and secretary. The subscriptions were fixedat 2/- for ladies and 2/6 for men. For some time an enthusiastic band of workers have been busy preparing a

lawn tennis court on the school grounds at Springhills and the results have been highly creditable, so that now Springhills possesses a court which compares more than favourably with those to be found in larger centres. Last Saturday the official opening took place before a representative gathering of district supporters and visitors from Hedgehope and Browns. After afternoon tea had beep served by the ladies the President of the club (Mr S. Slocombe) declared the courts open, at the same time extending a hearty welcome to the outside players and expressing the hope that many enjoyable games would be played on the new court. Miss M. Brown briefly replied on behalf of the Hedgehope Club. Mixed and men’s doubles were then played, bringing the afternoon to a highly successful conclusion.
