OPENING DAY. RECORD PIG ENTRY. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, November 2. The Ninth Royal Show was opened to-day by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe. There was an attractive and comprehensive display and the entries in nearly every class were ahead of those when the show was last held here. The greatest gains were made by pigs, the entries this year, 227, being a record for Royal Shows. Cattle and sheep are up to previous high standard. All breeds are well represented. Judging is in progress to-day. Championships so far awarded are: Harness horse.—H. Preston (Masterton); reserve—Mrs C. H. Crawford (Linton). Pony.—Miss B.
