News received by the last mall states that the Norwegian tanker Bisca, which left Botany Bay on September 6 for Palembang. has been chartered to load 8,000 tons of petroleum for the Mediterranean at 12/-. with the option to the United Kingdom as 14/-. The Bisca was for several months engaged In the oil trade between Los Angeles, New Zealand and the Commonwealth. Huddart, Parker Ltd. advise that they are making considerable reductions in the rates of passage money from Sydney to Hobart bv the steamer Ulimaroa, which took up the running from Sydney on Saturday. The reduced fares are: First-class single, £5, and in addition there will be a fee of 7/6 for promenade deck and shelter deck berths; third-class will be £3 5/- single. Definite information that the 10,000-ton motor ship Achimota has been purchased by the Huddart-Parker Company for the transtasman passenger service is contained in Australian newspaper exchanges. It was announced some days ago that the vessel, which has been idle at Belfast since she was completed a year or so ago, would probably be seen In New Zealand waters. Designed for the West African service, the Achimota is described as being eminently suitable for the transtasman trade, her construction having been based on that of the Westralla. The liner is expected to reach Sydney early in the New Year. A Christmas cruise to Norfolk Island in the liner Strathaird is an Innovation to be tried by the P. and O. Company this year. The liner is to leave Sydney on December 23 and will be at sea on Christmas Day. A call will be made at Norfolk Island, and passengers will probably have the opportunity of spending a day on the Island. The ship is due to return to Sydney on December 29. At present at London, the Strathaird is an all white vessel with three funnels. She is luxuriously appointed, and her visits to Australia have aroused considerable interest. Her cross tonnage is

22,544. The visit of so large a liner to Norfolk Island is likely to cause considerable interest among the little community. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
