OHAI NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Ohai Women’s Institute was held in the vestry of the Methodist Church on the evening of Tuesday, October 18. Mrs Martin presided over an attendance of twenty-one members and a party of visitors from Dipton. Proceedings opened with the reading of the creed and the singing of the Women’s Institute song. Mrs Martin welcomed the visitors and hoped they would enjoy the meeting. It was decided to adopt Miss Spencer’s suggestion and call the welfare committee a Red Cross Circle. After considerable discussion as to the disposal of money, being proceeds of community singing and dances, it was decided to hand any surplus over to the Red Cross Circle to be used for the good of the community. The roll call, Nursery Rhymes, was well responded to. A demonstration on “Dress Form” was very interesting and instructive. A competition, “Best article made from discarded material” resulted: Mrs Martin 1, Mrs Wilson 2, Mrs Colquhoun 3. On behalf of the Dipton ladies Mrs Moss returned thanks for their pleasant evening and hoped soon to be able to welcome Ohai members to Dipton where they are trying to form a Women’s Institute. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Flynn, McCall, Church and Miss Evans. The singing of the Women’s Institute anthem brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. The Ohai Angling Club held a competition on Labour Day when a fair muster of anglers took part. Considering the conditions quite good bags were obtained. The competition resulted as follows:—

Senior. Weight o' No. of bag fish W. Grindley 211b 8oz 21 I. Talbot 191b 8oz 25 J. Mair 161b 12oz 18 Heaviest fish, W. Grindley, 31b Junior. 14oz. Weight of No. of bag fish E. Ross 151b 12 C. Braithwaite 121b 14 D. McElligott 111b 8oz 14 Heaviest fish, E. Ross 21b 6oz.
