LAST WEEK’S HAND.
Can you make a grand slam at NoTrumps, if West opens with the King of Hearts? To win this hand it is necessary to play for a squeeze. The Heart trick is taken by South who then reels off five Spade tricks and three Diamonds. The tenth trick goes to the King of Clubs in Dummy and the position is:
Dummy leads the King of Spades, squeezing both East and West. If East throws the Jack of Diamonds, South throws the Club. If East discards a Club South will discard the Diamonds. Then if West throws the Queen of Hearts North’s Jack is good. If West holds the Queen of Hearts, Dummy will lead the Club for South to make A and 3.
