TYPOGRAPHICAL DISPUTE

NO AGREEMENT REACHED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 27. No agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council hearing of the dispute between the typographical workers and the employers. A deadlock was reached on the wages issue and proceedings were adjourned to November .15, when the hearing will be resumed. It was agreed to hold over the disputed classification clause and discuss the wages clauses, which are the principal points of contention. The employers’ wages proposals provided reduction of approximately 10 per cent, from the net rates now being paid. The workers’ counter proposals were on the basis of the existing award. Discussion of the wages clauses occupied the greater part of. the day. Although concessions were mentioned and considered no finality was reached and the adjournment decided upon is in accordance with the requirements of the amended Act. If no agreement is come to by November 15 the present award will expire one month from the date of the commencement of conciliation proceedings.
