Mr A. .W. Jones returned to Invercargill by the express last evening. Mr E. A. Pigeon, Gore, left for the north by yesterday morning’s express. Mr L. A, Greig, of Wellington, arrived in Invercargill by the express last evening. Mr H. D. Vickery, chairman of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, has returned to Wellington after a visit to Australia. Messrs G. Mitchell and A. Cowles, of Wellington, have been appointed members of the National War Funds Council in succession to the late Sir John Luke and Mr J. Hislop. Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, returned from the north by the express last evening and immediately upon arrival presided at the adjourned hearing of the Invercargill tramways dispute. Mr Manuel Drake, of Dunedin, ar-riv-J in Invercargill last evening to make arrangements for the Lex Macdonald concerts at the Civic Theatre on Saturday and Monday. He is staying at the Railway Hotel. Mr P. C. Gray, of Invercargill, who is about to embark on a world tour, left for Dunedin early in the week preparatory to travelling to Wellington where he will board the Makura for England. At the Dominion Council of The Boys’ Brigade, held in Dunedin on Labour Day, Mr J. W. Clarke was appointed a vice-president and the Rev. Murray Gow, Messrs A. Mervyn Branks and W. J. Lennon, members of the executive. The Bluff Harbour Board at its monthly meeting yesterday adopted a recommendation by the harbourmaster that Mr A. T. Adam, of the . Union Company’s steamer Waikouaiti, be granted a pilotage exemption certificate for Bluff. Mr G. R. Cooper, secretary of the Southland Employers’ Association, leaves by the express to-morrow morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of secretaries of Employers Associations and the annual conference of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation.
