FIRE BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon Mr E. B. Pilcher presiding over Messrs C. J. Broad and M. N. Hyndman. The report of the superintendent (Mr F. S. Simpson) stated that the brigade, since September 26, had attended five calls (one dwelling, one sample rooms, two wash-houses and one rubbish and grass fires) and one false alarm to Messrs Herbert, Haynes Ltd. caused by the pressure in the installation falling, making a total of six calls. The usual monthly visit of inspection was made to Lome, Kew and Karitane on Wednesday, October 19, when everything was found to be in order. Another chemical extinguisher had been installed ’ at the Nursery, Karitane, following the board’s recommendation. All routine work had been satisfactorily performed during the past month. Both street and automatic fire alarm systems had been regularly tested and were, together with all other plant and equipment, in first class order. In addition a good deal of renovation work had been carried out to the interior of the station buildings by the staff. The report was adopted.
