CONFERENCE CONTINUES.

REDUCTION IN DEBT.

Livingstone were welcomed home from Bengal at the Baptist Union Assembly this morning. ... . , The Assembly adopted the financial statement by singing the “Doxology. Dr J. H. Rushbrooke paid a welcome visit to the Assembly and begged leave to submit two greetings from the Queensland Baptists and from the Rev. E. Elder, who is in Argentina. Dr Rushbrooke congratulated the Baptist Missionary Society on its achievement in reducing its debt during the past difficult year. Dr Charles North moved a motion of appreciation of the services rendered for thirty years in the Chanapur Hospital by Dr Amir Hossain. The Rev. L. B. Busfield reported for the Fire Insurance Committee that the profit for the year had been £4B 0/10 and the fund now stood at £ll2 19/10. The committee recommended the establishment of an insurance fund similar to that in existence in the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches, the system to provide for immediate reinsuring of all risks with a reputable insurance company. Mr Busfield said that if the churches would link up with the Union insurance scheme# they would be putting money into its special fund instead of into the pockets of private agents. With proper support it would be possible to build up a strong reserve. , , . f It was agreed that the budget for the coming year for the Baptist Missionary Society for work in East Bengal be £6786. It was decided also that at the earliest possible moment the hospital at Chandpur be converted to an institution for female patients only.
