ART UNIONS

LIMITATION OF PERMITS. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, October 11. According to a letter received by Mr W. A. Veitch, the Cabinet committee which deals with ’ the issuing of art union permits has practically decided to refuse applications for permits for art unions involving small amounts in future. In view of this, Mr Veitch gave notice in the House of Representatives this afternoon that he would ask the Government whether in view of the depleted finances of charitable institutions and sports bodies throughout the Dominion it will relax the regulations limiting the number of permits issued so that many of these bodies may be tided over the difficult period. He also intends to ask the Government to increase the minimum amount specified in such permits.
