STATEMENT BY EMPLOYERS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 11. The employers in the engineering industry have issued a state rent to the effect that the Employers’ Federation is in no way responsible for the ironmasters’ decisions regarding the terms and conditions of employment. The employers offered rates of pay ranging from 12/4 a day for an entirely unskilled labourer to 16/- a day for- a skilled man. They were accepted by the great majority of workers in the industry throughout New Zealand. Regarding the employment of women, the employers did not propose to employ women at any work now being done by the men or in the same shops as the men.
