CRICKET MATCH. (From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon the first cricket match of the season was played at the recreation grounds when an A team played a B team of local enthusiasts. Mixed foursomes were played and during an adjournment for afternoon tea the president, Mr H. O. Wil - liams, officially declared the links closed for the season. The trophies won during the season were presented, the following being the winners: Lady champion, Mrs A. W. Murphy; runner-up, Mrs McDonald. Medal aggregate, Miss McAlister. Ringer competition, Mrs McDonald. League tournament, Miss McAlister. Sealed hole match, Mrs Murphy. Men’s champion, R. H. Scott; run-ner-up, A. J. Earl. Medal aggregate, N. Geary. After the presentation of the trophies Mr Williams, on behalf of the members of the club, presented Mr, Mrs and Miss Heath with tokens of appreciation for the generosity shown in allowing the club th- use of their property. Mr Heath suitably replied. An approaching and putting competition brought a very successful afternoon to a close, the winners of the competition being Miss McAlister and Mr R. H. Scott. W.D.F.U. A meeting of the Women’s Division was held in Johnson s a all on Saturday afternoon when Mrs Hamilton presided over a fair attendance of members. It was decided to ask members to bring suggestions for a syllabus for the year to the next meeting which will be held on November 1. Mrs Allen, Castlerock, gave a very interesting demonstration on butter making, which was very much appreciated by those present. Personal. After spending several months in Dunedin Mrs Biggar returned to Lumsden last Monday. The Revs. E. and G. Wilson left on Monday for Dunedin, where they will attend the annual meeting of Synod. Miss Payne arrived on Saturday to take up duties as infant niistress at the local school. Mrs J. S. Nelson, Invercargill, spent the week-end with Mrs A. McAlister.
