ARCHDUKE’S FEAT

DROWNING BOY RESCUED.

A courageous rescue from drowning by the Archduke Joseph Francis was reported from Sofia a few weeks ago. On the promenade at Varna, on the Black Sea, where the Archduke was spending a holiday, he noticed a shopkeeper running anxiously up and down asking people if they had seen his son. Seeing the boy struggling in the water, the Archduke stripped, off his clothes quickly and plunged into the rough sea. Before he reached him the boy had sunk, but the Archduke, who is known as one of the best swimmers in Budapest, dived after him. Managing to get hold of the lad, who was then unconscious, he got him ashore. The boy was soon revived by means of artificial respiration. . . The Archduke Joseph Francis is 37 years of ago, and was formerly an officer in the Austrian army.
