I BELIEVE IN FAIRIES
Do I believe in fairies? Why, what else is there to do? I feel them all about me everyday; They cheer me if I’m lonely, they turn grey skies into blue, They’re with me whether working, or at play.
Each night they tell of gladness that is coming in the mom, Each morning show some wonder that is new; I peep out from my window in the still and early dawn, To see their sparkling eyes among the dew.
If in my little garden plot, I plant a tiny seed, What makes the dittle thing begin to grow? A fairy waves a magic wand, then stays to tend and feed The lovely flower that soon will bloom, I know.
The world is full of fairies when the shadows softly fall, They’re with me when away to bed I creep. They gather round the bedside, and to other fairies call, To see no harm comes to me while I sleep.
I do believe in fairies, for I know them very well; The days without their love, would be so grey. A special page would never hold the things that I could tell: I’m sure they’ll speak through all our page to-day. —Cousin Margaret Jellyman (12), Queen street, Otautau.
