One of the most-popular figures at the 1932 Olympic Games was Mildred Didrikson, of Texas, the world record-holder in the javelin throw. She is a tall girl, and boxes and wrestles like a tomboy. Her favourite greeting is a staggering blow between the shoulder-blades or a crushing handclasp. Her manner is as rough as a backwoodsman’s, pleasing people who love novelty.
