LAST WEEK’S HAND.
Spades are trumps, and South leads. He must make eight tricks of the ten. South leads the King of Diamonds, which North overtakes with the Ace, and leads the Queen. This South trumps and leads a Spade which West must take with the Ace. If West leads a Heart, North trumps and leads the Jack of Diamonds which South trumps. South then leads a
small Heart, which North trumps and returns the 10 of Diamonds, South again trumping. South now leads Jack of Hearts and however West plays he can make only the King of Spades. If after making the Ace of Spades, West leads a Diamond, North takes with the Jack and South discards a Heart. North then leads 10 of Diamonds which South trumps. Then South leads a Spade and West must take with the Kling. Now North can trump either Hearts or Diamonds, after which he can lead the Queen of Spades to catch West’s Jack and make his two Clubs. If West refuses to put in the King on the second lead of Spades, North’s Queen makes, and a Spade lead forces West’s King. He . must now lead Hearts or Diamonds which North can trump and make his Clubs.
