BLUFF NOTES
(From Our Correspondent)
After spending a month’s holiday in Wellington, Mrs T. F. Babbage, Point Road, returned to her home on Saturday. Miss K. Cheyne returned last week from a holiday spent in Otago. A few light showers fell at Bluff on Saturday, but Sunday was again marked by brilliant sunshine. A heavier fall is badly needed to replenish the house tanks, the supply of many residents being at a low ebb. A meeting of the Y branch of the W.C.T.U., held in Willard Hall on Wednesday evening, was well attended. The meeting was opened by the president, Miss Dolly Calder, Mrs Jack Walker afterwards leading the prayer. A. new member, Miss Ruth Wilson, was initiated. A very interested article on “Youth versus the Liquor Traffic,” read by Mrs Walker, held the attention of all present. After routine business connected with the branch had been attended to an enjoyable time was spent in games. It was decided to hold the next meeting in Willard Hall on October 5.
The fortnightly meeting of the R.A. 0.8. Lodge was held on Thursday evening last, the chair being occupied by Primo E. A. Russell. There was a very satisfactory attendance. Lodge business was put through briskly and a candidate admitted to the order. In the hour devoted to harmony, items were given by Bros, J. Gavigan, G. Giles, E. D. Campbell (songs), F. Finchar (humorous monologues) and D. Parker (bagpipe selections).
The members of the Bluff Lodge are eagerly looking forward to the approaching visit of the H.M.S. Diomede. The personnel of the warship is strong in members of the Buffalo Order and includes a large number of talented performers. The excellent meetings held in Bluff during the previous visit of the Diomede are still remembered and a repetition of these is sure to eventuate. The visitors will be welcomed at a special meeting held in their honour.
