FAIRFAX NOTES

The final challenge game of the Euchre Club with a Gropers team was played in the hall on Monday night, when over 80 players were matched. After the usual 16 games at each table were played, victory went to Fairfax by 32 games. At each of the challenge matches prizes were awarded to the lady ana man showing the. highest scoring card. On this occasion Mrs Ford sen., and Messrs J. Bolter and J. Mamane, who tied were the winners, and at last week’s match Mrs Officer and Mr W. Foster took the prizes. At the final game of cards at Gropers library last week some interesting play was witnessed. .Miss C. Douglas won the ladies prize after a play-off with Miss Mills, while Mr A. Officer gained first honours for the men, Mr W. Gaitt being second. The aggregate prize for six nights’ play were won by Mrs A. Johnstone and Mr A. Officer.
The hall committee is at present carrying out some much needed alterations to the building. The floor space is being enlarged and the stage moved further
back and made more roomy, while a new ladies’ ante room is being added to the side of the stage. The factory reopens at the end of the week for the season and it is anticipated that this year’s output will be much larger aS many suppliers have increased their herds and there is every prospect of others joining the industry. Miss Margaret Dickson, of Riverton, is spending a holiday with Miss Cull. Misses Kilpatrick and Mclntyre, of Tussock Creek, are at present the quests of Mrs Helm.
